Simonsvlei boasts the services and skills of two young, energetic and innovative winemakers.

WS Visagie, senior winemaker, was born and bred on a wine farm in the Vredendal district.
Here, from his earliest years, he learned from his father the importance of growing quality
grapes for winemaking. There was never any doubt in this boy’s heart that he wanted to become
a winemaker.

After finishing school, he obtained his Agriculture and Winemaking qualification at Elsenburg
Agriculture College. From here, in quest of gaining more practical knowledge of the art of
winemaking, he ventured overseas. For the next three years he worked in wineries in France, 
Germany and California, learning about old world - as well as new world style winemaking.

After spending three more years in local wineries, WS joined Simonsvlei in Jan 2007. Here he
now applies his extensive experience to make top class wines to compete with the best out there.

While WS has the patience required for winemaking, he is actually an adrenalin junkie! When not tasting
and blending wines in the cellar, you will find him either in the cockpit of a Raven, in the saddle of a Harley Davidson, or exploring the depths of the ocean.
