Dream night at the Oscars

Attending the Oscar function is for most a once in a lifetime experience. M-Net and Simonsvlei made it possible for a couple from Gauteng to attend this memorable occasion. But let the winners of the competition, Werner and Jeanni Leibbrandt tell you their story!

“We have never won any competition and winning this was exceptional. Thank you so much for the wonderful opportunity – and a special thanks to Simonsvlei. Everything happened so fast - we had 7 days to prepare for the trip.

We had a wonderful time and had so many exciting days it is difficult to decide on one specific event. One of my favourites was the day spent at Universal Studios as a VIP. We visited the Desperate Housewife and Jordan’s Crossing sets. It is truly unbelievable and I will treasure that memory. Visiting the NBC Property Department was amazing. It is a 7 storey warehouse where they keep all the props for their movies or series. It is like a library for the studios. We saw a picture that was on the set of The Break-up with Jennifer Aniston and so much more – too many to mention. My husband, Werner enjoyed visiting the set of War of the Worlds. It was the scene where the aircraft crashed in town. It is still there with all the mess around – it felt like being in the movie! We also enjoyed the Waterworld (from the movie set) show – it was incredible!!

We went on a tour visiting famous star’s homes. We saw the Playboy mansion, Charlize Theron’s home, Paris Hilton’s house, Elvis Presley’s house, etc.

We had supper at the Ivy Restaurant which is a popular hang-out for celebrities.  We had drinks at the House of Blues, Foundation Room where they shot the film Freaky Friday with Lindsay Lohan.

The Oscar Screening Party was another highlight. We were picked up in a 10 seater limo and saw a lot of famous stars - it is difficult to take it all in. Los Angeles is definitely a city of celebrities and we sure felt like it on this trip.
