WETLANDS PROJECT: Simonsvlei initiated the Simonsvlei Wetlands Trust in order to protect, rehabilitate and develop the area's remaining wetlands and to elevate the status of the wetlands by educating the community on its historical, economic and ecological importance. The name Simonsvlei originates from the founder of the South African wine Industry, Simon van der Stel, and from the area’s vlei (wetlands) landscape, thereby adding more significance to the wetlands project.
